All about me

My name is Heather Nelson and I am an in studio and on location photographer serving the Rapid City, SD and Spearfish area. My goal is to capture the little moments in everyday life in all the photos I take.
I offer two types of photography; in studio or on location.
Studio photography takes place at my home in my modest studio. We use backdrops, props and end up with classic photos that capture the unique style of your family. Feel free to bring favorite toys, blankets, or sentimental items that make your shoot personalized.
On-location photography means I come to your home, meet you at your favorite location, or driving around the Black Hills to find a perfect spot for your shoot. It also may mean waiting for that perfect lighting opportunity for the best natural photos. I don’t use props with "natural" photography, most of the time the kids themselves are props enough!
During both styles of shoots, I will use some posing along with capturing natural poses that your child comes up with. They themselves can create the best situations for shots!
My background as a pre-school teacher comes in very handy when dealing with children. Capturing the moments when they are engaged or just playing is one of my favorite parts of photography. Their expressions are priceless. I may acquire some bizarre looks when I tell the kids to say "boogers", but it makes them smile, not the phony smiles either!
My ultimate goal of your photo shoot is create an experience that you walk away from loving, that your family says, "Wow, that was fun and easy", and turning out photos you can’t live without!
After the shoot we will set an appointment to sit together and review your photos. Choosing your photos can be a difficult decision, so I will sit with you an answer any questions you might have.
